This was an article I found that listed several ways that technology has enhanced education in classrooms. I am curious to here more ways this has been done. Please explain a way that technology has benefited you in school. If you can't think of one then think of way it has benefited your job, hobby, or anything else it had a positive effect on. Would you feel comfortable teaching a class if we could use everything we talked about at our disposal? Is there anything else you could do to prepare yourself to teach this class if you had to present your future class to the school board for a chance to get a job?
I have been in the work world for 3 years now and one thing that I have noticed is how much technology affects the workplace. The article linked discusses 5 big issues in today's technological workplace. The one issue that stuck out to me was knowing the difference between Work Time and Personal Time. I have been around many people that do not know the difference and, to them, it should be their personal time 24/7. What do you think about these 5 issues? What are some things that you have experienced regarding technology issues in the workplace?
http://ethix.org/2002/04/01/five-big-issues-in-today%E2%80%99s-technological-workplace So far in this class we have discussed how schools are trying to stay current in today's world, equipping each classroom with as much technology as possible: SMARTboards, tablets, cell phones, etc. However, there is little scientific research that shows technology ultimately improves learning from how things have been in the past. Some doubters of this technological rise state that the costs of implementing this technology outweigh the benefits, and that constant funding of new technology will take away funding from other areas in school (funds for sports, bands, choir, etc.) As I was looking through topics on the internet, I came upon an article about a school that bans all technology from the classrooms, including computers, calculators, cell phones, or any electronic technology we basically use every day in our society. I would like you to read the article and post whether or not you think students would benefit more from a classroom with several technologies being used, or a classroom that does not use technology at all?
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/23/technology/at-waldorf-school-in-silicon-valley-technology-can-wait.html?pagewanted=2&ref=gradingthedigitalschool Bitcoin is a digital currency that's gaining popularity for being
independent of any government -- and difficult to trace to actual people. You can now use Bitcoins to buy a high-tech, $27,500 rifle that lets even an inexperienced shooter hit a target 10 football fields away. Read the article below and tell your thoughts on whether you think this option is safe; should banks honor Bitcoin users? Give your reaction on the article http://money.cnn.com/2014/03/27/technology/trackingpoint-gun-bitcoin/index.html We've learned about the cost of technology and shared our opinions on students bringing their own devices. But what about the students that will never own a device? Is it fair that we allow an opportunity for students to bring their own and these students have to watch? Should the school fit the bill to provide a handful of technology devices in each room for these students? If the school is able to provide devices for students, what are the limitations we as teacher will set? Will our students be allowed to take these devices home? What are the "purposes" we are going to allow for the use of the devices: free time, assignments, rewards?
Normally we discuss technology in typical classrooms. Surprisingly when I started typing into Google I had a whole different topic in mind that I wanted to post for the student blog. One that involved special needs children and technology, but this is the article that was first on the list. I clicked and began reading, thinking that this has nothing to do with the topic I wanted but I found the article to be extremely fascinating and relating more to my chosen profession, Athletic Training which is a healthcare profession. Obviously I do not plan on being a surgeon but the possibilities are endless with the idea that this article talks about. Read and write about what you think! Should this "little black box" technology be implemented? Will it help with success and reduce errors?
http://www.forbes.com/sites/robertszczerba/2013/09/17/silence-kills-can-technology-drive-meaningful-cultural-change-in-healthcare/ : New things always come with one question: is that will work? And for so many reason we always find a good points and bad points about everything. So my question is :
How technology affect the educations of the kids today? Are we going forward ou backwards with kids having technology inside the classroom. www.ctd.northwestern.edu/resources/displayArticle/?id=158
In the above article, Del Siegle, an associate professor of educational psychology at the University of Connecticut, answers seven questions regarding gifted students and technology. 1. Why are so many gifted and talented students attracted to technology? 2. At what age should gifted students begin to use computers and other technology? 3. How is technology being used to enhance gifted students’ education? Can you share an example of what today’s technology enables students to do that would not have been possible 10 years ago? 4. Why is the Internet such a significant learning resource for gifted students? 5. How can parents help students use the Internet as a tool for learning, rather than simply a place to surf, browse, and chat? 6. What are telementoring programs, and how can gifted students benefit from them? 7. You’ve written about technology giftedness. How do you define this term, and how can parents help a technology gifted student develop his or her talents? Look through the article, choose one of the seven questions and comment your thoughts on the subject. |
