In the above article, Del Siegle, an associate professor of educational psychology at the University of Connecticut, answers seven questions regarding gifted students and technology.

   1. Why are so many gifted and talented students attracted to technology?

    2. At what age should gifted students begin to use computers and other technology?

     3. How is technology being used to enhance gifted students’ education? Can you share an example of what today’s technology enables students to do that would not have been possible 10 years ago?

   4.  Why is the Internet such a significant learning resource for gifted students?

   5. How can parents help students use the Internet as a tool for learning, rather than simply a place to surf, browse, and chat?

   6. What are telementoring programs, and how can gifted students benefit from them?

   7.  You’ve written about technology giftedness. How do you define this term, and how can parents help a technology gifted student develop his or her talents?

Look through the article, choose one of the seven questions and comment your thoughts on the subject.

There has been much conversation and research done recently on the "Flipped Classroom".  What do you feel are the Pros and Cons of incorporating the Flipped Classroom process into early, middle and high school instruction?

As the future of education moves closer to being more virtual I would like to discuss how technology can be used more effectively in Physical Education.  I found a website that looks at using HR monitors and Pedometers in order to keep track of some of the activities that the students are doing. My question to the class is are there any other forms of technology that students could use that would be relevant in the area of physical fitness?   One thought that I have is to teach students how to use an app that keeps track of the number of calories that they eat in a day.  If students can learn to control their diet then they have a chance at a healthier life.

We often forget that technology isn’t limited to the internet, a smart board, cell phones or tablets.  There are a lot of teachers in this class but we also have quite a few coaches.  For this blog post share what you think technology has done to the world of sports.  Take a look at the article below that gives 10 new technological advances that may play an impact in their sport and at the Olympic Games.  In volleyball, technology is developing in the types of uniforms, shoes, knee pads, ball production, and training tools all the time.  They have even started talks of a challenge system, much like the system used in tennis, in volleyball.  Share what technology you have observed and used as coach.  If you do not coach then share what you think technology has done for sports over the years and what kind of impact it may have in the future.

While the emphasis on technology has become more and more pronounced, we also see values such as equality coming to light. The financial burden of technology is not only existent for schools and school districts, but also for families. Should the cost of increasing the technological capabilities of a school/district be at the expense of the families or the school/district? In terms of equality, who should be responsible for the cost? There are rarely multiple schools/districts with the same budget, just as there are rarely two families with the same budget. If a student in one particular school receives new technology at the expense of the school/district, should this luxury not be extended to every student in the school/district? If the expense were left up to the parents, what would happen to the child who cannot afford the updated technology? Do you think there is a good solution to the financial concerns of updated technology and does the cost of updating technology outweigh the benefits?

With the push towards technology in every aspects of our lives, from just about everyone being on social media, having the best cell phones and using the top technology in and out of the classroom. Is there a point in which the amount of technology that students are using or being forced to use is to much of an emphasis on technology? Should there be a limit on how much students use technology in the classroom and on assignments, or is the value of hand written work and using books instead of Google gone?

With all of the talk about integrating more technology into the
classrooms, we have to also consider the diverse needs of the students
we have.  This includes students with special needs.   What kind of
options are available for students with specials needs and how can
they be used?

A+LS Anywhere Learning System (ALS) allows students to complete classes using the program entirely online.  The system shows all assignments and grades each of them.  Students can work at there own pace and just have to have the class completed by the end of the semester.  This program is being used quite frequently in the school district I am currently teaching.  What do you think about this program?  Do you feel it is beneficial or are there too many negatives?
