In this day and age, there are apps for everything. In a health education/promotion class, what app could the teacher use to that would engage the students and how so?

I was looking around on the internet to try to find a unique app that was geared toward working out in the gym. I came across “Fitness Pro”, which seems like a pretty nifty app. If I were to use this app, it would definitely be more for a workout classes in high school or middle school, but the app could also be used in the elementary setting. Fitness Pro shows people how to do different exercises based on the kinds of muscles they want to build. The app provides people with a way to track their progress, create new workouts, and figure out the kind of weight they should be lifting based on bodyweight percentages. I thought it looked pretty simple and straight forward, and it would be a wonderful tool to use to try to get students engaged with working out. Students could try a variety of lifts in order to build a certain muscle group, and it would allow them to constantly mix-up their workouts. I know when I was in high school weight lifting class, I would have loved to have had this app to make the workouts a little more varied.

There is so many apps out there to help students. I guess it just depends what you teach and what grade. I think one of them that any age could use is Health Ed Body. Teaching the kids the facts about good healthy food, substance abuse, and teen health. Plus with all that there is quizzes so you can test the knowledge of the students, to see if they are really learning the material. There is apps for anything, and the more specific you want the better.

A great app that I think is very valuable is the app called, WOD (work out of day) Deck of Cards. This is an app that gives you a workout of the day, every day. A lot of people say that they do not know how to exercise or what to exercise so by having this app solves a lot of those worries. It is very beneficial and promotes fitness even on days where you may not feel motivated in doing so. Just by using this app, you are guaranteed a great work out designed, now all kids would have to do is make the workout happen and I am sure there will be positive results!

As I was researching ideas for this topic I found a pdf file that has free iPad apps for health and PE. There are a variety of apps in this document that deal with everything from calorie counters and carb counters to an app that includes over 700 exercises for men and women.I think these would be great to have access to for different units that an educator might use in their health or PE classes,

I think that there are ways to utilize the most basic health app on the iPhone. The Health app tracks steps, walking + running distance, and flights of stairs climbed in just its basic function. I think that perhaps having a competition to see who walked the most steps or climbed the most stairs with prizes for the winner would be really cool.

The free Health app that comes with all Apple and Android devices actually has been well thought out and planned. It can help with any needs you may have regarding exercise, diet and staying healthy. The app is easy to use (even for young children) and can help promote healthy habits.

I really have to agree with Ryan. That Health App that is on the iPhones now is a great app and its free. It helps you with whatever you are looking for help with. They did a great job in planning out this app and how it would help people and their everyday health. Anyone can really use it because they made it so simple. I really like to see how many steps or flights of stairs I have walked in a day right on my phone.

The app/website that I would use is Kahoot.it This app/website allows students to test their knowledge and understanding in the classroom over subjects that were taught. My students end up paying attention to everything I say so at the end of the week when we do our Kahoot quizzes with the Ipad, they can have the fastest times so their name is seen by everyone. The app also shows their progress to them compared to the whole class individually so they can see how they are doing but no one else knows.

For my purposes of my class I found different apps and accounts that will be beneficial for the soccer world, one Facebook account I use that is very useful with a variety of drills, and different ideas of the world of soccer from professional clubs to under 8 academy teams.

One app that could be beneficial is myfitnesspal. This app helps you track your diet and exercise just by putting what you ate and what activities you did that day. You can create goals and track your progress to that goal which can be very beneficial if someone is trying to lose or gain weight. You can also "connect" with friends for motivation and to see what they are up to. Its a great app that I think has many benefits.

There are multitude of applications out there that may have usage in such a forum. Since I'm in healthcare though and my primary purpose in teaching my students is patient centered and thus I believe this is the type of application I would attempt to utilize in some form. One of the main reasons as well in utilizing such an application would be due to government's push toward more concentric care of patients through the use of electronic medical records. Because of this fact and not to alienate anyone I believe an internet based application would be my first pick because of its broad usability.
