We have talked a lot this semester about different technological advances and how they are changing the landscape of education both in a positive and negative manner. Thinking back from the very beginning of class in January, when we developed our own websites to present day where we have been blogging and commenting on different subjects, what do you believe is the most beneficial piece of information you have learned (this can be from a lesson, assignment or student blog that you have read) and how do you plan on using it in the future?

I think the most valuable thing was building my own website and looking at all the resources out there. I really enjoyed using WebQuest and Google Sites. Both of these are great tools for incorporating technology in the classroom. They are both free also! I think I will use WebQuest as a tool for posting project information online. It is a great way to post resources and give examples for projects.

I enjoyed the WebQuest Activity as well. I thought it was a great way to engage the student. With the WebQuest I like how the student got to be in control of the project. The next step was up to them. I feel that this really allows everyone to learn in their own way.

Allowing people to learn on their own is always good, people learn differently and by allowing students to find their own niche will help everyone in the long run. The WebQuest would have students actually interacting in the class with material that you have presented

I like how you pointed out that the student can learn in their own way. That is sometimes a better way to retain information. I had my WebQuest made where they could work in groups too. That is good too, because they learn to bounce ideas off each other and learn to work together..

I also liked building my own WebQuest. I teach a class that looks at what WebQuests are and we visit several sites, but I had never built my own.

There is no doubt that I have learned a lot about technology over this semester. I was surprised at the the impact technology could have on education. What impressed me most over the semester was the respect that I gained for teachers who use a lot of technology in their class. I respect the amount of time and effort they put into learning and using new and helpful forms of technology.

I will have to agree with a previous post and say that the WebQuest was very beneficial for me to learn. Now, that I see how easy it was to construct, edit and publish I will definitely use this website down the road. I thought WebQuest were appealing for the eye, and the self-explanatory ways to set up makes it a keeper.

Not quite sure that webquest will be a part of my everyday life, but at least it is another form of media that I can now use in an attempt to keep updated with what is going on technology wise.

I think building my own website was pretty cool. To see all the different things we as teachers could add to our web page is pretty neat and is something i can now say i have experience with and am comfortable doing. I also learned how twitter works (being someone who doesn't social network) so thats a good thing.

I forgot about doing the twitter thing, but that was good to learn how to use that social media because I was completely clueless as to how to use it before this and I didn't realize that you could network on there in addition to just being social with friends.

I think the most valuable information I learned was building my own website. I always took for granted the fact that my teachers had a syllabus, course work and website created by the first day of class. I never realized how extensive this process ways and what all it entailed. I now have an idea of what types of things I will expect from my students when I teach and how to incorporate my expectations into their lesson plan.

This is a good point, there is a lot of time and effort that is put into classes even before they start. When we designed just one assigment to put on our website it was very time consuming and took a lot of thought. To do that for an entire year or semester would be challenging.

The most interesting thing I have learned this semester is how there are so many different options of technology that can be incorporated into the classroom. With that being said, the financial burden of technology in the classroom is one that needs to be addressed especially the way our world is becoming more relient on technology

I think learning that I could create a fully functional site and how to do that was beneficial so that if I do teach it's a great way for students to turn stuff in and such especially with school sponsored sites being slow and down for maintenance constantly this might be more helpful in that setting.

I really liked the WebQuest too. This is a definite tool I am going to use in my classes. It is a great way to expose the students to the internet and give them a goal. The one I created, the students can work in groups or alone. The project can be big enough to last a full semester and you can have them work on it on half days or the day before a vacation.

I agree that the web quests are a great tool to use in the class rooms. It can be used as a refernece for the students and their assignments or it can be used as the assignment itself. I also enjoyed doing this assignment myself.

I think the webquest was great to do for this class. I had never done one before. It allowed us to similate what a real assignment would be for the class we would teach in the future. It also allowed me to actually think and understand what a teacher would go through when giving assignments. I had to revise some of my material; either thinking it was too easy or too hard/difficult for the student to complete. You also had to think if the students were really going to get something out of this assignment or if it was just busy work.

Stacy, I really liked the idea behind your WebQuest. It was something I would have enjoyed doing as a student, and something I envision myself someday having to do — building a game/rec room. I believe that designing our own web page and the web quest assignment will prove to be the most useful in the future. A lot of classes have their own web pages; this provides another place where the students can go for help or clarification on an assignment. The classes that do not have their own web pages now, will have them in the future. Web quests are a good idea for teachers to put on their web pages. The web quests are a fun way of explaining the assignments to the studnets and provides them with place of reference.

I think the most valuable piece of information that I gained from this class is the implementation and creation of a teacher webpage. I have mentioned before that as I recruit, I search all avenues of an athlete: talking to her club coach, talking to her high school coach, etc...And doing so, I come across teacher webpages through their school website. As I go through the various teacher webpages, I am introduced to ways these teachers interact with their students, students' parents, and fellow administrators.

For me, the most beneficial thing I did all semester was the webcast. I chose to do mine on setting up a paper in MLA format, and I was able to use SMARTBoard software to record a screencap and voiceover for the webcast, and literally walk people step-by-step through the process. I think it turned out really well, and I've given the link to several students who have come to me asking for help with MLA.

I've used the screencast tool (had to go thru a training to learn it) and actually like it. I created a lesson on how to write a lesson plan for my online students. I covered the same stuff in the screen cast that I explain in class. They get the same material, but can go back and revisit it anytime.

I am glad your webcast has become a useful tool to help the students in the lab. After I worked with a student on using the FOIL method, she asked if I knew any other resources she could use online, so I directed her to my video. She said it was helpful. I think we need to create more of these for different topics, as a resource for our students to use.

The most valuable thing we talked about, early on, was the Digital Footprinting. I actually used this in my own Tech for Teachers class the next week. It was very beneficial and it opened the eyes of my students. We had a great classroom discussion over it and a lot of them commented on how it was a valuable piece of information that they (future teachers) would keep in mind & teach their own students.

I know I will use many of the things we have learned this semester. I think the most valuable was the creation of a website; I plan on incorporating my weebly website into my resume packet to show future employers examples of my work including the web quest and screencast created this semester. I have also been able to use the knowledge I gained on how to create websites and create a free Google website for the apartment building I mange for my father. He was impressed! Now, when someone searches for an apartment in our area, I am hoping they are directed to our website and contact information.

I don't think that there is just one thing that I can put my finger on but I think the overall number of angles that one can take to present material in different fashions. I had heard of twitter but had no idea how big it really was. I really don't like twitter but if is a social media that seems to draw attention, I think it is a way that I could benefit depending on what info I am trying to get across.

I like when we made the webcast. I think this allowed me to help organize my lesson in a very clear cut manner. I also think this could be extremely helpful for students to use these when they are absent, or when they are having trouble with their homework. They can pause or play it as many times as needed. Having a website solely for my class was also a helpful resource for my students.

I really enjoyed reading everyone’s blogs and comments on the blogs. I think it was great to see everyone’s opinions and see what different subjects of teaching with technology each student discovered and talked about. I never realized how many ways one can incorporate technology in the classroom and now have a better understanding on the correct age to introduce technology to young children. .
