As a football coach one thing that is very important to the sport and something I have a passion for is weightlifitng. Weightlifting classes are now usually seen in all schools as actual classes that students can take as an elective. As seen our nation is definitely not in good shape as far as being physically active enough and therefore obesity is an epidemic. Besides being necessary for almost all high school and college athletes weightlifting is a great activity for all students to learn about and take part in. With technology on the rise I feel like their could be some great ways into incorportating it into the weightroom for our athletes to help them train and for just regular students in weight training classes. Research and article that deals with technology incorporated in the weightroom and describe your article and give some of your personal ideas about the article.

I never thought of doing that with an iPad. It's great that he has that available to him. It would be motivating to be able to look at a chart and see your improvement and compare yourself to peers, as well.

I personally don't own an ipad and recently learned more of it's capabilities after playing around with my sister and mother's. It seems that the options are endless and I am sure that there is more to learn for this guy.

I love the idea of having a way of tracking my progress electronically. I feel as though it would be so much more organized and easy to understand versus writing everything down by hand.

I also believe that weight lifting is a great activity. It is cool to see all the technology that can be incorporated in the physical education world such as the pedometer that plugs into the iPad.

Wow, I'm impressed with that technology. My son was an athlete in school, and they work out throughout the year, but often don't realize they are doing the weight lifting or exercises incorrectly with can strain or injure their bodies. I think this technology is a great idea to teach them the proper techniques and correct it on the spot if they are doing it incorrectly. It also allows coaches to draw and pinpoint areas to work on or strengthen. It would be pretty cool to be able to see a demo of this technology in person.

Wow that is really cool! I can't even remember how many times I was told to correct my technique by the strength coaches in college. It would be so nice to actually be able to see what they see, and would make correction a lot easier to do!

I thought my college of undergrad had a nice new facility. I read this article and it has some amazing technology. The 360 degree station will be a major tool in the technique of their athletes. It makes you wonder what they will come up with next. WOW!

I like the idea of being able to see the mistakes that I am making while lifting. I know when I had just started lifting weights when I was younger, it would have helped tremendously to be able to use this. Could have saved me from unnecessary aches and pains.

The first thought I had when I read this post was the iPhone app that is supposed to help you count push-ups because you are supposed to touch your nose to the phone while it is on the floor in front of you. I can just see people tapping with their finger to see how large of a number they can get! At least with the other apps I have found for the iPad, they would actually be very useful.

This is really neat! I personally do not work out because I am afraid I will hurt myself since I am not educated on proper technique. Something like this could be very beneficial to the average joe that wants to get back into shape or tone up. When I had weight lifting in high school, our coach did not even pay attention to the girls. He used it as a moment to get a workout in for his athletes. Since I had no idea what I was doing, i just bench pressed the bar the whole time. I did this for a whole semester and he never even noticed.

I had a hard time narrowing down what I wanted to find on this topic but I can see where technology can be very useful in weightlifting just as well as any other class. They can look up videos on proper techniques, chart progress, and I'm sure there's an app to monitor what the body is doing. I actually found a lesson plan for 9th grade to incorporate technology into the weightlifting class. Students developed a personal fitness program including cardiovascular endurance and weightlifting. There were placed into a group and assigned a specific muscle group to focus their internet/workout project around. Students utilized the computers, various software programs, weight training and cardiovascular endurance equipment and tied it all together for their final project into either a powerpoint or a DVD presentation.

I think the technology I like most that can be incorporated into physical fitness classes is the individualized programs like the ones you mentions that develop an all around program for students that incorporates both cardiovascular and weightlifting in the class. I also like how they can switch groups and focus on different muscles at a time. Plus, it engages the students by allowing them, and not only the teachers, to get online and use the software to track their program and progress and then bring it altogether in a final presentation. Where did you find this lesson plan?

Instead of finding something strictly about technology in the weight room, I found an article detailing apps that can be used both in and out of the weight room. Not everyone has the ability to get to a weight room (those with disabilities or who do home schooling when it comes to students) so there were a few apps that really sparked my interest. One app was designed for those who do not have access to equipment such as a treadmill. This app is called iTread. It keeps track of distance, steps taken, and average speed. Another is GymGoal ABC which allows you to know different weight lifting techniques since not everyone has a personal coach. It offers 280 exercises and 50 workout routines. I really liked this article because it listed apps that could be used by professionals and beginners.

I think it is amazing how they have these apps that can help you while working out. Also letting you know exactly how much energy you exerted while working out. Technology is giving access to people who may not be able to afford a personal trainer or coach.

There weren't many articles that's talked about weightlifting and technology specifically but I do know of the personal trainer apps. That show you proper form to lift6 weights and gives you a personal workout plan after you answer a few questions about your weight and goals.
