It is common to have smart boards in the classroom in 2014. I think this type of technology enhances the classroom. At all Grade levels smart boards are being used. We even have smart boards at our University. Read this article and tell me if you feel smart boards help enhance the classroom. Because it is purchased by the school district every student is allowed to reap the benefits of this technology. If you feel this piece of technology is helpful and can change the educational experiencewhy are so many teachers not using it inside the classroom?

Smart boards are very helpful in the classroom. What isn't very helpful is having a teacher that hasn't been taught the proper ways to use a smart board! And even worse is an older teacher that not only hasn't been taught the proper ways to use the smart board, but REFUSES to use the smart board. If I haven't been taught properly, why would I spend extra time setting up a piece of technology that I'm not even sure if I'm using it correctly? Schools should take the necessary time and effort to educate their teachers the same way they want teachers to educate their students, and not waste the technology that you have.

I agree with you that smart boards are a great tool to use in the classroom. I have actually heard of a teacher using a smart board as a reward. He used it as a reward for students to finish their assignments when they are complete. He saw a huge improvements in students finishing assignments.

I 100% agree that SmartBoards are beneficial in the education world. In my experience, as you stated, there are many teachers that do not know how to use the technology to its full potential. Many do not know how to fix simple issues that may be causing it to not work, so they will just turn it off and not use it until someone comes and fixes it. Teachers need to be taught how to properly use the equipment and be shown what it is capable of.

Everyone already said it. The main reason it is not used is because no one is taught the proper way to use it and all the things it can do to benefit you classroom. And I do not blame any teacher that doesn't use it. There is no point it wasting your own time trying to figure it out when you have limited amount of time and so much information to cover in your classroom.

I think I am with the consensus of the class. As an instructor we should be a role model and should be able to use these technologies with ease. If we are not comfortable using this technology in front of students than we do not use it. I think it is very useful to use this technology in my classroom and I enjoy using it.

Yes smart boards are beneficial. I would say better or more elaborate training is needed for the boards to maximize their potential. Hope as smart boards become more common the learning process will advance so that teachers are better prepared to use these tools.

I believe that smart boards are completely helpful. I also agree with a lot of people who say that the teachers don't know how to use this technology therefore if something goes wrong they just don't use it. So if a teacher knows how to use it I think its completely beneficial to the education of students.

SMARTBoards have many beneficial tools, yet not once have I been shown how to properly use one. It is rather frustrating that everyone says it is so beneficial when all I see it as is a glorified projector. Sure, you can make it fun for students to walk up and use the interactive projector, but couldn't they do that before with a markerboard? Also, it says you can bring up pictures and material that help connect what the students are learning in the classroom to the outside world. However, couldn't you just look this stuff up on your computer, project it on a normal projector, and still get the same effect? So far not once in my life have I seen a SMARTboard being used in a way that was unique in that no other system could do what it does. Most of the time I see it used as a projector only, with powerpoint slides running the show. I have seen some math teachers use it when teaching geometry to draw perfect shapes and such. However, I don't think it's that important to have a perfect line drawn when everyone understands that it is supposed to be straight, or that the triangle is supposed to have a right angle even if it is slightly off. What I am getting at is that no one has really shown me anything on the SMARTboard that I couldn't already do without one, and Im beginning to think that for all its worth, not much has come out of it for no one has really been shown how to properly use it.

As I have already mentioned in many other posts, as an elementary substitute, I have utilized the Smart Board in the classroom almost daily. I think it is a great piece of technology to be used and especially great that the school provides them for every room (for our district anyway). A Smart Board allows the students to see what they are working on on a large scale which makes it easy for the students that benefit from that type of learning. For the younger students, a Smart Board has proven to be helpful in allowing them to interact and learn by playing educational games and doing lessons on the board. When they are able to learn in a hands-on setting, most absorb the lesson being taught better.

Status Quo seems to be the problem with this new technology. I have 4 children and have yet to hear them talk about using the smart board at school. They have one but it is not used for as much as it should be. My kids still bring home the copied worksheets I may have used when I attended. I think it will take teachers who are not afraid to break out of the routine and challenge how they do things to make use of the existing technology. I fear a great deal of teachers are too worried about what is coming next to use what they already have.

I think we as educators must be able to maximize the equipment that's available to us. With smart boards for instance it doesn't do us any good to have a smart board in every classroom and we don't event know how to use it properly. The smart board turns the boring classroom into an interactive learning sanctuary. The key component to success is the ability to understand and maximize the technology we have available.

I think smart boards are helpful in the class room because it adds another level of creativity and it allows the teacher to stand in the front of the class room and be interactive with it instead of sitting at the desk going through PowerPoint slides from there. I don’t think I ever really used the full potential of the smart most of the time it was just used for power point presentations and all I did was tap the screen. I think teachers don’t use it because they believe that their teaching style works without it. If they added a smart board then they might have to go back and change a lot of things in their lessons to accommodate for the smart board. Some teachers may not see the full potential of using a smart board but I think for younger kids being able to use the board would be a fun activity.

SmartBoards are helpful in the classroom because they are another effective piece of technology that engages students effectively. My 6 year old nephew is in kindergarten and he can probably use the SmartBoard better than I can because he interacts with it more than I do, but he absolutely loves playing games and using it and the clickers. I think maybe why a lot of teachers aren't using it is because of a lack of knowledge. Most teachers, if they know how to use something, will use it because it improves the quality of education.

I feel that smart boards are excellent peices of technology. I used this many times when i was student teaching, and I do believe that every student can reap the benefits from them. I used mine for review games, videos, and let students give presentations on them. I wish that all schools had them for their students to use.
