This blog talks about Google's plan to team up with EdX to create a new online course webpage for schools and businesses. They state that the site, Mooc.org, will allow instructors and corporations the ability to test new courses quicker. Mooc will be released in 2014 and Google will use it as part of their cloud network.

I think this is a great idea. Allowing more users access to this site will definitely allow experimentation and innovation to occur quicker, which should be very valuable. I also found the last paragraph interesting, the paragraph that mentioned rival services Coursera and Udacity. Competition makes any field stronger and Google wading even deeper into the online education fray could conceivably cause growth at an unprecedented rate - a benefit for many.

I looked at your web site and I very much agree that if universities and corporations would use the EDX it would make organizing and tracking learning a lot easier. It is much more simple to be able to go to one place and find everything that you are looking for than for you to have to go to 5 different sites to find 5 different classes. As far as the training aspect goes, any time that there is les paper work and more organization the better off everybody is. when you take human error out of the equation, it leaves no room for accidents and excusses.

I think the debate between Apple and Google is far from over.. Every time one of them comes up with an app or program, the other comes up with a different program or app to do the same thing. Personally, I prefer the systems/apps/programs used by Google. I feel that they are more user friendly, the equipment is cheaper and it able to be used on a wider variety of systems. One of my main issues with Apple apps/programs is that they can only be used on Apple products, while Google programs can be used on a wide variety of devices. Apple products are also more expensive, while Google is a more cost effective option for schools.

I agree with you! I also prefer Google apps over Apple. I've also read that the Google products are more reliable and tend to have less problems in the long run. I would love to be able to implement the use of tablets into my classroom! At this time, I only have one computer out of 3 working so my students can't even use them for educational games. Our school does have 2 iPads, but only a few people even know how to use them. Would they work with the SmartBoards or computers we have available now? Or would we have to switch to something else for them to work?

I agree with Alanna on the fact that google apps and products are cheaper and can be used on a variety of different products. Which tends to be ideal for schools and their budgets. The ability to operate on a variety of different technology allows for schools to stay up to date while making the transition to better equipment.

I have to say I love my iPad and my iPhone. I would say that I am a "Apple Person" over all...but...I love my Google apps as well. I use Goolge calender and Drive all the time. Drive is one of the best things that happened to me as a teacher. I make it so easy to share doc and presentations and has saved me time. I can get all of work as long as I have an internet connection.

I didn't thoroughly go through your article but i skimmed it. I liked what that school district is doing and I also hope that other school districts throughout the United States are able to adopt this. I have never been a big apple fan either and have known many people that are good with technology to have issues with their products. Even though Google products are cheaper I am still concerned that cost will be an issues for many school districts. I know several teachers in different school corporations.and right now that is not in their budgets, but they would find great use in having this technology in their classrooms.

I really like that Google is setting up classes and seminars to help teachers with growing technology. Even though I am the youngest teacher at the school, I am not always the most knowledgeable about technology, especially new technology. I think webinars would be great for this because we could possibly use some of the technology as we are learning about it. A webinar would also help because several teachers could do it together in a computer lab. I enjoy being able to learn when I am around people that I feel comfortable with, so I think these classes could be very beneficial to me. Also, if I was able to learn with some of my coworkers, we could always refer back to each other for assistance.

And Google docs/chrome is such a great way to share documents between educators and students. In my hearing clinic, other clinics and I share training materials for the students we are mentoring, and it has saved so much time for all of us.

I read an article written April 28, 2010, the day the Oregon public school system incorporated the use of Google Apps for Education into its classrooms. Those behind the plan highlighted three primary reasons for doing this. 1) Save money 2) Boost academic performance and motivation 3) Prepare students for digital communication in the real world. I think all three of these points are valid, particularly the latter two when focusing on students. Using technology to bring creative activities into the classrooms should give students extra motivation to succeed simply because many students find digital activities more interesting than traditional paper-based activities. Also, in a world that's going digital, it's a great disadvantage to fail to develop these skills beginning at an early age. Ingraining technology in student's minds throughout their education will benefit them greatly when their time to transition into the working world comes.

I think using Apps in the classroom would be great! How cool would it be for each class to have its own App, I would have been more excited in middle and high school about learning if I had Apps to help me out in and out of the classroom.

I really like this idea! I was one of those students who always voice recorded the lectures. I feel it would have been that much more beneficial if I had been able to video tape my lectures to see diagrams on the board and etc, If professors taped their lectures and archived them, it would be a huge asset to athletes travelling, students who miss classes or need help studying. This would also be a great tool for professors leading study sessions or needing to have meetings with students who cannot come into campus or otherwise. This would resolve a lot of scheduling conflicts for both students and professors. I agree that it would be a great way to get and keep students involved.

I like the idea of being able to view live conferences or archived ones. I hesitate to attend conferences because I can't justify my school district spending the outrageous amount of money it costs for me to attend some of the ones offered. After registration fees and travel expenses, I wonder if it's really worth it all. I also like the idea of collaborating with other teachers from other schools. I'm the only kindergarten teacher at my school and sometimes it's hard to get ideas from coworkers when they don't teach the same grade.

In this article I found some interesting information about what Google is doing to spark the interest in great young minds coming out of both High School and college. It talks about Google's BOLD series which is pretty much an internship with Google to see their facilities and gain an understanding of what they do. I think this is great on their part because they are a very large iconic organization that influences people in their every day lives. Part of the prerequisites for being able to participate in the internship is that students must be enrolled full time in high school or college with a plan to enroll in a 4 year institution and obtain a BA or BS. Also they are looking for the brightest students because they want to stay innovative and cutting edge.

I accessed the link you provided and think this would be an amazing opportunity. As a high school senior you can apply and spend one full day at google, as a college freshman you can apply and spend one full week, and after completing a minimum of two years of college you can apply and spend 11 weeks with Google. I am sure this is a win/win situation from both sides, the student and the company. The student is exposed to an amazing company and the opportunity to be a part of the company and receive training from Google. From the company standpoint they have the opportunity to select the most qualified and those who they believe will best fit into their culture for the internships/scholarships. I am guessing when it comes to the hiring process, excellent interns are the first to be considered. They basically have an 11 week interview. As a high school senior who wouldn't be motivated to be successful in college and maybe return to Google for another internship or to work for them.

That is an amazing opportunity. I was a senior in high school 17 years a go and there was nothing like this. In fact I did not even have an email address until my senior year. We have come so far so fast with technology and trying to integrate it into education...we still have a long way to go.

Like the video Ruth. I think is really good to bring tablets to class because when u bring somehtin new kids really enjoy it, But if the school doesnt have that kinda money?!? Like in brasil, we cant afford have all this technology inside class, not even in private schools, so I guess techonolgy is not for all right now.

I think this is great!! I love the fact of bringing tablets into the classroom for students to use. With having the administator tablet it makes life a lot easier on someone. You don't have to update each tablet one at a time. I am big on technology and a huge fan of introducing new technology into the classroom for students to use, just wish it was more affordable.

I did not read the artical but to add something to what Dustyn said. With the iPad you are able to push the apps out to more then on iPad at a time and do not have to up date them one by one. You do need a docking system to do this.

Interesting to see what is going on in another country. I was trying to think about what American education would look like if we only had 2% of the teachers using technology.

one app on google that is very productive for coaches and teachers is the google chrome app that is used specifically for uploading and showing videos in classroom or meeting room settings. this allows videos to upload easier without any buffering interference or waiting to download. it is also a specific tool where if your looking for videos on cells going through stages of mitosis your not gonna get any extra videos that talks about something out of the ordinary or un-relative to the subject
