With most elementary schools in bigger cities using the Ipad Program. How do you see the use of Ipad in the classroom as a positive and as a negative?

I think that the use of ipads in the class room has definitely let students benefit from use of the technology. I think that schools have to regulate the use but it will help families and students of low income families benefit from the technology and to be able to achieve success from the use.

I think the Ipad use in school is a great resource. It is helping students gear towards the future where everything is focusing on using technology. Even restaurants use the Ipads to take orders for meals. I wish our school could afford one for each student.

Good article. I like the idea of the ipad being a great resource for students in the classroom for students to have the specific apps needed to perform at a high level in the classroom while staying engaged as well. As for the students being able to access the other sites that would serve as distractions, I would say it may be a good idea for the school, since they would be providing the tablets, to only upload apps that are require for class and then block the other sites. My opinion would be to allow the students to leave those ipads at school as they would be able to use their personal devices at home where they can surf the web as freely as they please in their personal spaces.

I feel that iPads can be a very valuable tool if monitored correctly. Just like a smart phone, students will choose to place their attention on iPads rather than on the lesson. That is why when iPads are used there must be a specific purpose. This means that in the lesson plan there is a real purpose that expanded the student’s depth of knowledge greater than traditional teaching methods. The fact that the iPad can become so many different tools makes it a valuable commodity for any subject. I am not sure if allowing students to take these iPads home is a good idea. With school budgets already thin, many districts cannot afford replacements and repairs of iPads that already cost a great deal of money. In my opinion if a school can afford to provide its students with the best educational technology, it should without hesitation.

I think iPads are a great alternative to using laptops or desktop computers in the classroom. There are a plethora of educational apps that can be used, and it makes learning fun for the students because many of them do not have access to iPads at home. However, there is a worry about the cost of iPads for every students in the class, especially because it is likely that the iPads get damaged throughout the year.

I agree with you too, I think having a smaller object is easier to maneuver too. I would love to have ipads in my classroom for each one of my students.

I would love to have an iPad to use in the classroom. I really feel the students would benefit from the educational apps. Right now we are learning multiplication facts the good old fashioned way with flash cards, but I know there is a huge variety of apps that could help students learn these facts and actually hold their interests.

I think, like with any technology, there will be positives and negatives to using it in the classroom. A positive to having Ipads in the classroom would be all of the students have the same access to technology and the one who cannot afford it are not left out. A negative could be that students will pay more attention to the Ipad than the teacher while in class. This would take a lot of monitoring.

I agree with many of the previous comments. I know students who go to schools that supply an Ipad and most of them say they just play games on them. I don't think many of the teachers are skilled and knowledgeable enough or have the time to design work that involves using an Ipad. Too many times it is just a way to keep them busy. I think we are moving too fast and need to slow down and examine how this can be used in the most effective way. I am not here to entertain them I am here to teach them math and I think I know a thing or two about what is effective and not effective. I just don't want this shoved down my throat.

I think iPads are a wonderful tool to use in the classroom. I think that they provide an engaging way for students to learn. More importantly I think if monitored correctly they can take learning to an entire different level. I think that adding different apps to the iPad an teaching students how to utilize them in the classroom is a great idea. I also feel that making sure these devices are monitored is extremely important. They should have a specific purpose in the classroom. I feel that students can utilize their own personal computers at home to surf the web during their free time the classroom time should be used specifically for educational purposes.

I think using iPads can be a great benefit to students in the classroom. It is versatile and less time consuming because there's a lot of Apps that are ready to use when needed and I think the students would be more interesting in this method versus traditional. On the other hand, it is not very cost efficient to get iPads for every students and to maintain these. Also, given these iPads can easily pose as a distraction to student's if not monitored properly.

I think IPad are a great addition to classrooms. It gives the children instant access to things that might take time to get in any other situation. I hope that all schools start to utilize technology more and more. Might as well use something that students are familiar with and can be such a huge help in the classroom.

I really do love to read these articles about schools using technology to teach and to keep the students occupied but the one thing that keeps running through my mind is how to the school pay for all of the technology that the students are using. The money has to come from somewhere and if the school is paying for them then they are not saving $13 a book. They are spending $500 or $600 dollars a device or more then spending more money on all the e-books they need. It is not a money saver unless the devices are all covered in a grant or something. But with all of this aside I love the idea of teaching kids in a way they can understand and keep learning in new interesting ways.
