There has been a lot of discussion this semester about the use of iPads in the classroom .There are many free educational apps for teachers and students listed on the Apple website.I want you to take a moment and see if you can find an app that would help you as a student and/or a teacher. Then, state how you could use this app. http://www.apple.com/webapps/news/educationteachingheadlinenews.htmlhttp://itunes.apple.com/us/genre/ios-education/id6017?mt=8http://www.apple.com/ipad/from-the-app-store/education.html I found a graphing calculator app, that I think is worth adding for only $1.99.http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/graphing-calculator/id289940142?mt=8

I found an app called Minds of Modern Mathematics. This looked like a good reference for me. It gives a history of mathematics. Many times when I am teaching a lesson, I get questions that I cannot answer, about who discovered we do this, or why does this trick work. I always tell them to look it up and report back to me. This would inform myself so I can give an answer to those curious minds. After all I want to incourage their curiosity. Also, it would give me even more answers to the question I hate hearing which is, "when would anyone ever use this" But after me spending about 10 minutes solid telling them why these things are important in real life, they usually get the picture and trust I am teaching them things they need.

I think this app sounds really interesting. It would be fascinating to find out where some of the mathematic equations originated, and this could help with the students' understanding as well. But I agree that it would be most helpful with answering that annoying question of "when will I ever use this information?"

I found an app that could help younger students working with arithmetic. Apple has an app that works just like flash cards. I found flash cards extremely beneficial for not only math problems, but also any other things that needed memorized. This app also appeared to be free which is also nice.

I found an app right along with what you found Coach Camp. I really liked to use flash cards when I was younger and still do today to study. They help me out alot. One thing that I still like to do is write the information down and then read it over and over again. With these apps they are already written down for you.

I have an app like this for my 2nd grader- very effective for him and it saves on carting around a deck of flashcards.

I have been continually searching for free apps on my iPad and I have found one that I think would be useful for students to view and instructors to post lessons on, it is called “ Educreations”.The app is located under the category for educators. It looks like a smart board screen; you can create a lesson on it and record your voice also. It is also a free app and very easy to use, I just had to register for it by submitting my name and e-mail address. Once you create a lesson you can choose to send it to an individual in a private message or post it in a public forum for all to view.

This is a great app! I agree that it is very beneficial for educators, parents, students, and even education training programs. The smartboard screen similator helps teachers design lesson plans easily and effectively.

Educreations is simply incredible. After Stephanie told me about this app, I looking into it, and I actually found Calculus lectures that were relevant to what I'm currently working on. Awesome! The ability to share your lectures with the world is amazing.

I actually saw this demo'd about a week ago. It was really cool & very seamless- as long as you know your computer's IP address so your iPad can find it. Once our school gets the iPads, I'll be using this app myself. I can't wait!!

I found an app that I would love to use not only in a kindergarten class, but for my future children. It’s an alphabet tracer and helps the student not only learn the letters, but how to write them in a fun way! There are a lot of great apps at this store and I think it makes technology and education work better together. Great site!

This sounds like a pretty cool and useful app! Do you remember what the name of it is so I can download it on my phone for my little niece? She loves playing with my phone when I get to see her and this would be a good app for her to play with and actually learn something.

Audrey, I have seen that alphabet tracer you are talking about. I think that it is pretty cool too. Being able to teach children how to properly right their letters at a young age via technology is okay with me. (Still doesnt beat putting a pen to a piece of paper though)

I found an app called "My Spelling Test". Each week the student can upload their spelling words. This app is a free approach to over coming our dependence on technology to fix spelling, while still using technology.

I saw a bunch of apps for different languages, which I think would be really useful especially at the elementary level since that's the age when we retain language the best. In my district we learned sign language and Spanish early on but this would be really nice to have so that you could reference it and would be great for visual learners.

I agree with you. A Spanish app that can help visual learners can be very helpful tool. Apps are great because it engages and keeps learners interacting with what is being taught.

I agree. And it would be interesting to see what kind of learners would do better learning from an app then actually going to a class.

I found an app called "Mental Math Secrets" and I believe it would help my students with many different things in math. It talks about having different videos to learn different methods on and practice games to help with memorizing multiplication tables. It even has help to practice with major tests like the GRE and the SAT.

Since I am a college track coach, I would use the Pace Calc app with my group. This app converts goal times into splits for workouts.

I found an app called "Human Anatomy". It would have been very beneficial to me when i was taking undergrad classes. To be able to just press a button and see any body part or to see ligaments, bones instead of flipping through a 500 page book to find what page something is on. Plus it can make memorizing stuff a lot easier.

This is an example that I can see technology being applied and actually be very beneficial. If you are at the college level and taking classes in which the technology is constantly changing, then I can see something like this being very beneficial.

Any app that can be used in the right ways for a learning device will be very helpful. This is when technology is at its best when it helps students with learning. All of the apps that are out there are useful and can be a great learning device for any grade level.

I am going to go with the math flash cards. I assume that they still make the math flash cards but couldn't tell you for sure. This would be something very basic for the younger group that I feel could be very beneficial and combine both basic skills with technology.

I found an app called GeoMaster Plus. This app acts as an active atlas. You can locate any country, city, or capital. It will tell you whatever you want to know about that place, including the population. This would be very helpful for social studies and geography classes. It allows students to be more interactive with what they are learning about. This app also allows students to find out information that they might find interesting about another country or city. I think this is a great idea to get students more involved with what they're learning about.

I like this app. It would be a good way of using technology to learn geography. I always found it too difficult to learn proper geography when using books. I think with this app they could learn to interactively explore geography and that would make them learn easier.

I went ahead and added the free GeoMaster Plus app, after you mentioned it, and I look forward to using it. I noticed to purchase the full app it was only 3.99. It does seem like a fun , interactive and interesting way to find out information about a city, state, capital, etc. I may play around with the free app first and then decide whether or not to purchase. So far I like it.

I found an app that works for concussion assessment. It contains a step by step process of how to recognize the signs and symptoms of a concussion and what they will present like in an athlete. If you go through and add your athlete's signs of a concussion it will tell you what severity the concussion is graded at. It also gives recommendations on how and what to do for management of a concussion. This is not as elaborate as what we use as athletic trainers but it could be very helpful to coaches and parents when dealing with young kids in sports.

The app I found is a Science Glossary it has so many different scientific terms and short biographies of all things science. This could be useful to any healthcare major where it be an Athletic Trainer or not. A good resource of all things science related.
