As the future of education moves closer to being more virtual I would like to discuss how technology can be used more effectively in Physical Education. I found a website that looks at using HR monitors and Pedometers in order to keep track of some of the activities that the students are doing. My question to the class is are there any other forms of technology that students could use that would be relevant in the area of physical fitness? One thought that I have is to teach students how to use an app that keeps track of the number of calories that they eat in a day. If students can learn to control their diet then they have a chance at a healthier life.

I like the idea of the calorie counter for students. Many times we don't even realize the amount of calories we intake throughout the day. I think a program or free website that counts your calories as well as your physical activities (reducation in calories) along with other healthy/unhealthy habits (such as smoking) and provides feedback about things like long term disease process (ex: diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.) and life span shortening (what decreased physical activity, obesity, smoking, etc.). Depending on the age of the student items could be added or deleted to better help them understand what healthy and unhealthy lifestyles do to your body over time.

I have heard many people talk about keeping a diet journal or an work-out journal. I have even seen people doing this - once I saw a man working out at the gym and he kept pulling out a pen and paper so he could keep up with how many reps he had done of each thing. I was thinking it would be good if there was a program that helped you keep up with this information. An app on an iPhone or Android would really be great for this. If this was a thing, people could easily look at it whenever necessary. Schools could put this app on tablets and let students keep up with it that way.

I like the idea of a calorie counter for students to help them keep track so that they can lose weight. I feel any app or idea out there that can help students get in shape and stay in shape would be great. with a little research on my phone i found that there are several apps out there. some that I liked are the ones that have daily workouts that change from day to day so that people can work out their entire body. I find that apps like this are great for students and average people a like because they are free and could be very helpful to all.

One that I know its to know how many % of body fat do you have in your body. In brasil we use a PC program that you will put the weights of your all muscle + your weight + your high and then will show How much body fat you have it.

I think using a calorie counting app is a great idea. One of my fellow coaches encourages his athletes to use an app like this. The app allows you to scan the bar code of packaged foods to save you from entering the nutritional information manually. I think another good health-related app is a sleep tracker. Push a button in the app before you go to sleep and push the button again when you wake up and the app will log your sleep patterns and make recommendations to improve them.

I think these apps are a great idea. Starting at a young age for physical fitness is the best way to reinforce a healthy lifestyle. Many kids these days are always with their phone so apps that help them are great and they would be more willing to use them since they are always with their phones.

The use of a calorie counter is a good idea. I think that could help out a lot of students. I have seen a lot of people lately start using the Nike+ system that can track distance and speed while running. The need for technology in physical education is huge and I think technology is going to change not only that but sports in general.

Using these apps are a great idea! When I did my student teaching in physical education I talked a lot about using these types of apps for physical fitness. In todays age physical fitness should be one of the biggest focus points and with everyone having phones or tablets with apps these would be perfect of them use to record things.

I found a really cool website that I think would be great for kids and parents and teachers alike. This app allows kids to track good healthy habits for lifestyle improvements. Vanderbilt University created MyRoutine to help even children with Autism.
