I really like the idea about live tweeting field trips, and posting different educational games and puzzles, and the scavenger hunt. Though twitter can help liven up a classroom and educational setting, you still need fun stuff here and there to keep students interested. I like how field trips and games can still be incorporated via twitter.

Your website was near identical to the one I reviewed, although mine was broken down into 5 categories (communication, organization, resources, writing skills, and twitter exercises) that explained how a teacher could use twitter in her classroom. Not being a twitter nut myself, I do not see me using this very often, but a few things on the list could prove to be worth the time (like chat with industry professionals, or take a poll).

Especially towards the bottom of the article. They use a good example of a teacher using a hashtag and a twitpic to send her students and post a question in which kids could answer, no matter where they were. This teacher was using it as a flipped classroom environment where they can learn through unique and everyday life events. I personally think this is a great idea, but even better is that it shows students that there are very useful options to social media besides just following your favorite celebrity, but you can actually connect with people all over the world about situations you may learn about or hear on tv in different parts of the country and actually get responses from people who are inolved first-hand with the experience. That's what I really gained from the first part of the article about the incidents in Egypt.

I think this article also shows very good uses of the twitter. I think the way she teaches through twitter is a good example that it isn't all about celebrities and gossip, but can be educational like carl said. The incidents in Egypt was very interesting to me as well because it shows that it can be used farther apart than just the united states and your "click" of people.

I totally agree Jacqui. I was new to twitter and the only thing that gets advertised is gossip, and celebrities. As you begin to navigate and search twitter you find so much helpful information that is accessible at your fingertips.

I enjoyed reading this article. I have had a lot of people tell me that Twitter is a waste of time and that it is 'just another social network.' I always tell them that it all depends on how you use it and who you choose to follow. If you follow the right people, it can be the most informative and educational tool right at our fingertips. I like the idea of the teacher using twitter to incorporate the flipped classroom. I feel that schools and classrooms are going to become more like this, the more our society focuses on social media.

This article was very similar to the one April Young chose, but elaborated more on the fact that Twitter can be helpful for exploration and communication in the world of social networking by allowing searches to be so specific. Although I still only frequent Facebook, I am starting to like the idea of Twitter even more: from an educators' standpoint. Sometimes I get tired of seeing the drama from my friends and family, but I deal with it just to keep up. But in the classroom, I think using Twitter can be beneficial. For me, it would not be used to see what the girl I went to high school with was doing this weekend, but to keep up to date with local, or even world, news specifically interesting and beneficial to my class.

I liked this article and could not stop thinking of how using twitter could compare to the television show Mr. Rodgers. I loved that show and believe it was a great way to explore neighborhoods. As a child I loved the part of the show where he went to local businesses and could see how things worked. Twitter could give children avenues towards helping them shape their passions for jobs in the future. After all, how many teens have you spoken with that were undecided at graduation time. This could help shape a person and help them to decide so they have the knowledge to pursue their dreams.

This article relates a lot to the problem of big classes. Most universities have hundreds of people in a large auditorium based room where all the students must pay attention to the professor lecturing for an hour. If you aren't the student that likes to raise his/her hand and answer a question in front of a hundred people then twitter can be the solution. Dr. Monica Rankin of the University of Texas at Dallas did an experiment where she allowed the students to tweet comments or questions about the lecture via phone or laptop without having to be embarrassed or disrupt the class. The teachers assistant and herself (at times) answer in a live feed displayed in front of the room so everyone can learn from the questions and comments. As well as being more comfortable for the students, the teacher stated it is also an inexpensive solution. Luckily, I did attend CMU and had a nice class size where I was able to talk to the teacher and ask questions. But talking to friends from mizzou, they talk about how hard it is to get involved because of the size of the classes. With this twitter tool everyone can be involved.

I went to Mizzou my freshman year of college, and it was very hard to get involved in any sort of class discussion during a class that was held in a lecture hall. I had a couple of classes that were small, about the same size I had at UCM, and those were easier to get involved in. And another one of my lecture classes had a "lab" that met every Friday with the graduate assistant with only 15 students in it. Those made it easier, but we still weren't interacting with the professor. Twitter would be a great way to remedy that. I imagine it would be pretty engaging, too, to see the Twitter feed in class and everyone seeing everyone's questions.

Being a teacher for a couple years I understand how communication makes classroom instruction a lot easier. Because of the growing trend of social media, you can either get with the program metaphorically speaking or your can refuse to join the technology movement. The great thing about teaching and social media is that its the younger generation that uses it the most. I agree that using something like twitter in class would be so affective and such a powerful tool in the classroom

I really like this idea. Especially coming from a big university in ohio, where big lecture halls were the norm. Being able to answer questions and contribute, without having to wait to be called on (if ever) would be a lot more efficient. Just make sure you have an appropriate twitter name lol.

I went to CMU so when I was there a big class was about 100 people and most of my classes did not have more then 30 (I had some that had 4 students). I hated that in big classes that I never got to talk with the teacher. Twitter could have been a help if used like your example.

I read many articles that had to do with using twitter in a large college setting where it was hard to interact with the professor. This appeared to make a great deal of sense as often people are left out and may not understand assignments correctly. I then stumbled upon this http://www.anadominguez.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/twitter-classroom.pdf which explains how an instructor is using Twitter in a Kindergarten class to help establish communication norms to young students who are learning and shaping how they communicate. I found this to be very confusing at first, because, how many Kindergarten students have access to Twitter accounts. However, the student's do not need this the teacher interacts with others from various districts and disciplines (her PLN). This allows students to see their comments written down and the responses from others in real time. I can only imagine how children react to this.

Int this article, the teacher says her lecture was too large for everyone to effectively communicate. So she had all of her students sign up for twitter and used this as a way to get everyone discussing a topic. This would be a great tool for a large classroom like this to collaborate if it was needed. Other wise it would be crazy to try to get everyone to discuss a topic in class. In this example I think twitter was very useful and I would consider using it for my classroom.

This website gives 5 ways that twitter can be useful. I think that using twitter in class can be big in class preparation. This can be used in different ways in which people can do research or just make a fun activity. I know if I was in class and a teacher made me use a twitter I would enjoy it. It would be better than a lecture or classwork. There is also the ways of networking. I know that there are a lot of people who post jobs or interns on campus. The other thing it can do that would be able to help is communication from teachers to students. You can get notifications sent to your phone like text messages if that person post something. People are more likely to check their twitter than email

I feel parents could also benefit from using twitter as they can follow along with what the students are learning and can expand on that knowledge from home. This is an opportunity to show children learning can be fun and the knowledge they are getting in school just touches the surface and there is much more to learn if the desire to look is there.

Thats a good analogy about how twitter is a ticker at the bottom of the screen. The main reason I like twitter is that its a quick read and im really only reading things that I find interesting.

The article I read was very informative. I had not thought about Twitter being used globally but it does make sense. It used Egypt as an example on how students can see what is going on as it happens globally. It also explained how students can actually communicate on a certain subject with people globally. Educators can be positive role models to students. If we teach students how to postiively use social medias and how they can be fun and eduactional it is much better than students learning to use them in negative ways.

This was an interesting article and not what I would have expected to read about involving Twitter. My article was about using Twitter for grammatical purposes and to help students write better. But I loved the idea for this article in that students of any age can benefit from using online social networks, especially Twitter because it allows you to communicate on a specific subject.

Gary, I enjoyed the article you posted. I thought it was easy to follow and would be especially helpful for anyone that is new to Twitter. I know a few basics of Twitter but have been getting more experience with it due to this class. I agree with you that it gives the basics for anyone to understand.

This article shows how Twitter can be used to grow your PLN. In this article, teachers of different subjects tweet ideas , share thoughts, and collaborate with one another to help them become better teachers in their subject area. I feel that this can be a great tool, especially for those teachers who do not have much collaboration at their school. As a teacher, you must always be willing to learn so that you can help others learn.
