I really like the idea of the video chat, because many parents are busy with work/activities/weather related problems, whatever it maybe, and the opportunity to speak with a teacher through video seems to be a good time-saving tool. Most times you meet with a teacher, you're going to be there quite awhile because you haven't caught up in awhile. With the video you can have shorter sessions that may be more convient.

I just recently was introduced to Google Docs and using it because one of my students had issues with Word. She shared the link with me, and I was able to leave comments on her essay just as I could if I used Word. And the really cool feature about docs is that if she was viewing her essay at the same time I was grading it, she could see my feedback as I wrote it! I really think it could be an incredibly useful tool in classrooms as well!

This is a really interesting article! I do agree that the Google Apps benefit the Oregon public schools in all of those ways. My favorite is the preparing for the real world. So much of the future is technology, which is sad to think that our lives will be spent on computers, phones, I-pads, etc., but that is a whole other topic. It is a reality that technology is the future and the fact that the public school is attempting to help prepare students for this while keeping them interested and saving money is pretty resourceful.

I totally agree with you! I am a younger, technology savvy student; however, I know the feeling of fear in regards to losing a PowerPoint or missing the latest update to your paper that is due. I was very surprised at what all Google has to offer, and the fact that it works so universally for most every one. I will be looking further in these Google apps for my future endeavors.

I liked reading your article and I know a little about the cloud but never realized how it could be used in education and how awesome it would be that the excuse "I forgot my homework" would no longer be able to be used.

I agree with you james. I believe elimating the fact of being able to lose your presentation would be a great thing to have. Since using google in the classroom can add this aspect to learning I believe it would be a great thing. I had no clue that you could do all the things that google has to offer. Taking away the hassel of flash drives and using emails to send power points would be a great relief to alot. Over all google would be good.

I also performed a similar search and found similar results. It is awesome to have a company that can provide students and teachers with all of these different services. I think that Google is a win for the education system and I think the implementation in the classroom will yield great results.

I also looked at this article and it gave me a lot of ideas of how many ways Google can be used in education.

I think this would be helpful in combination to what I looked in. I found where Google was supplying tablets to schools to help students learn. I'm sure that many of these strategies could be easily put in combination with the Google tablets I looked up.

I too was also shocked to see the realm of products that google offers in the education world. They even amaze me more by being totally free. WOW. This has excited me to also look into more information about how technology can be very useful.

I agree being open to learning from others is very beneficial. Particularly since the majority of use are just beginning to use these different tools the more we learn from others will greatly help us in our own careers. Most great ideas do branch of other peoples ideas. We tend to modify things in a way that better suits us and sometimes it can make things work better or more efficiently.

Google Play for education is a package that combines Android-based tablets with management tools and software designed specifically for K-12 schools. Teachers can search through apps to find one that is best suited for their classroom and grade level. The Apps are approved by teachers for teachers. Teachers can select videos and books for the students to read. Im sure there are many programs out there using devices for their class room. I would trust that Google knows what their doing when it comes to getting information and technology to people of all ages.

I agree Google is very good at getting their information. With apps teachers can find different ways to teach their students. The only thing I think about using google in classrooms are if the internet is down then what happens.

I hadn't thought about the possibility of teachers being able to share their lesson plans, especially at workshops of clinics. All of the teachers I know of have their lesson plans on their computers and if they need to share them, they either email them or save to a flash drive. So Google makes this much better for teachers.

I think google resources can be very useful in the classroom. The article I have found discusses using google earth as a useful tool in geology. I completely agree with that. Google has done something with maps and GIS that not many other groups have ever done, make them interesting. If you have not ever been on google earth you are missing out. It is a lot of fun just to see what your house looks like or what your property may look like from a different point of view. Another great use for google earth is to help teach about a new and fast growing field, GIS. GIS stands for geographical information science and it is quickly growing along with the technology. This GIS system is the reason we have google earth. In the end, I believe many of google's products are extremely useful in the education setting.

Brad, I too have used Google Earth, it is fascinating how they have pieced together so many pictures and satellite images to create a 3D image of the world. This would be highly useful in any class. For example, in history you could google search a foreign area and see exactly what it looks like today. For math, you could easily teach distance and speed, while giving students relatable areas to connect with while solving the problems. Really, any teacher could find Google Earth useful in their classrooms.

The use of Google to use in English class, for writing papers, is a great idea! I watch so much paper get wasted in school so the fact that teachers can edit and grade student's papers through Google, rather than on paper, will save so much.

This was the website that I came across. First I would like to say on how much google has evolved since I graduated out of high school. Biggest thing that I liked was the google docs. I think google docs are becoming very helpful. You can access them from anywhere once they are stored. Some of the other things were the calendars and video seminars which are pretty helpful for people who have to give presentations. It might help those who are shy see themselves and help them get better in talking.
