One of the new applications out there for teachers is Google Classroom. With many public schools starting to use Google For Education for everything (I know there are people that hate this but I love it!!) this is one of the new tools they are offering, It could take the place of Blackboard or Angel in many ways. I am just starting to use this with two of my middle school classes. My classes, my media specialist, and my self are all learning together on this one, Below is a clip of what you can do with Google Classroom. Find an artical, blog post, or YouTube video about Google Classroom and share your link and your thoughts,

Wow! That was a very informative video. I think I would really like using Google for the classroom. I use Google e-mail at school and it's amazing. I didn't realize there was so many different options to use. I believe that it's easier than blackboard. I used blackboard in college and it seemed to always be such a pain. I don't think that I could use it with my 3rd graders just yet, but believe once we are taking all our online standardized testing that I could gear towards this a little more. I think it's a great way to communicate and get assignments to all students. I think this would cut back on late assignments and assignments being forgotten.

I have not used blackboard before, but I have heard some of these same complaints. I like the idea of students being able to turn in their work where ever they may be. It helps with accountability for not only the students, but also the teachers.

I also agree with you that 3rd graders would probably not benefit from this program as an older more mature student would. I also agree that it would cut back on late assignments as well. I also believe that it would eliminate the excuse making of some students because with this program, they would be able to access it from anywhere at any time. That way they cant say that they weren't by a computer or they weren't at home. I personally like the way it is set up and I think it is a great teal but it also shows us how much further technology is being incorporated into our school systems.

Great video. I already use Google for about everything, but I had know idea about all the new tools Google offered. I think these tools will be great for keeping organized and staying in contact with students. I am currently teaching third grade and I do not believe they are ready for this, but time will tell. I found a website that talks more about Google and education.

I agree that 3rd grader might not be ready for this now, but with the way technology is progressing who knows. I have used some of the Google apps before like drive and mail, but even I was surprised to hear of this new concept. I am excited to see just how flexible I can be with this new program.

I agree with you, this is safe and convenient way for communication between teachers and students, students and other students and teachers among themselves. It seems quick, user friendly and convenient. I would love to learn more about it and see how beneficial it truly is.

In the article I read it talked about the issue of privacy. Google is able to store information about the students and teacher. Google admitted to storing information from student emails to better their target audience advertisements. It makes me wonder how safe it really is for students to be using.

I agree. There is so many different tools available that it could be overwhelming! It makes teachers' jobs so much easier, too.

I agree that 3rd grade is probably too early for them to understand how to use google classroom. But I think that in only a year or two they will be ready and anxious to learn this new way. It is never to early to introduce small pieces of technology to children, I would still have them practice other activities on the computer so they are not at all intimidated when they first sit in front of a computer for an activity. They can scaffold their new technological information every year on top of what they already know.

I thought this video offered very good information. I agree that 3rd grade may be a bit early for students to use Google, but maybe some parts could be used to get them introduced to this technology. I teach 6th grade and I feel this wold be perfect for this age group. The way these tools can help organize the classroom for the teachers and students is great. The benefit of students being able to access Google from anywhere is also great. This would help students complete homework easier and reduce the excuses of why they couldn't complete homework! The only drawback is there are some students who do not have computers or internet access at home. Overall, these tools are great!

I think that if you properly taught the third grade class how to use your google blackboard that I think they would be beneficial in knowing how to use the program. If you can be successful in teaching this program the students will be more beneficial.

I thought this video was really good. I knew Google offered a lot of tools for teachers to use in the classroom, but I didn't realize how much. There can never be enough organization in the classroom! With more and more having to be taught and accomplished in the classrooms everyday, this would be great for classrooms. I teach sixth grade and this would be perfect. These tools are also great because students could access Google from most anywhere so school work can be completed easier.

I agree I think that this is a great tool. This is the first time that I have experienced this but I think it would be beneficial for all ages in school especially with students starting to use technology.

Google does offer a lot for the classroom and it is amazing on how well it can be used if everyone is able to use it. I would say that third grade would not be able to use this until kids are born with phones in their hands and with todays world I am surprised this isn't already happening. Time will tell on how young they will be able to use Google applications for school. I won't use it for my 7th and 8th graders simply because I know they will not get it done and I will have to harp on them to do it.

I also think it could be very beneficial to both the student and the teacher however it may be a bit much for students below the middle school age. Google classroom is a great way to keep learning creative and fresh while still being efficient plus it allows for a paperless classroom!

Even if I wasn't a fan of google classroom, after watching this video and seeing the pregnant teacher in her first year struggling with that bag full of papers, I would be. That image alone has made a believer out of me because it shows the importance of how much a paperless classroom would benefit teachers and students alike. Knowing that they can put those assignments and grades right there into the computer and knowing that their students would have access to them is a great way to move forward for all involved.

I agree that this defiantly fuels the modern classroom. The amount of money it saves is nice too. I think that this is a great way to prepare students for college as well. Leaning how to log in, get the assignments, and turn the assignments in online is a great stepping stone. At the college we see students struggle with this on a daily basis. I think its a great way to prepare future students!

I think Google Classroom would be great for middle school students and older. It is new, it's fresh and less time-consuming. I think it would capture student's attention and they'll be more excited to learn in comparison to using traditional methods. If I was a teacher I would love to utilize this in a classroom, maybe there's a way to use it for coaching.

I think Google Classroom is a great way to get students involved. I also feel that its a great way to communicate, save time in the classroom, provides a safe place online for students to submit their homework and I think it would help control cheating in the classroom. The amount of money it would save the school districts would be pretty amazing as well. Maybe some of that money could be utilized to help update the classrooms even more.

Google classroom is great for the classroom but I am not sure how well it would work for sports. I guess it could work for posting workouts and weight workouts but then your loosing the team atmosphere and the communication it takes to be an effective team. I would say no to having a lot of technology for sports but for the classroom it is the way we are going and after a couple more decades we will be looking at 100% interactive classrooms where the kids will never have to leave their houses and school buildings will be used to store everything.

I think Google Classroom is a great idea. From the video above it seems like an easier and faster way to manage a classroom. It also seem like it is more exciting and would draw the attention of the students. I think it would be interesting to try this out with my volleyball team. It could be a fun and easy way to keep my team on the same page.

I would agree with you it is appealing for the kids. I have noticed if I used fancy fonts with the worksheets I make, my students love them. If it is just a regular font they are bored with them. It's rather interesting how kids like things that look 'neat'.

I agree that it makes students more responsible for their own work because it is all done online. Many of my professors in college went from having paper copies of essays turned it and they grade them online and upload them to the class site. I think this is really simple and it is something that can be quicker than having a bunch of paper copies of assignments from multiple classes. It keeps everyone (even the students) organized and on top of assignments.

I like how in google classroom, it forces the teacher to give feedback in a timely manner. The teacher can see exactly what time and date the assignment was turned in so there is no excuse for not letting the student know how they did in a timely fashion. This may give a student time to fix a project before they are deducted any points. This will also help their understanding of the subject if they can keep working to get it right.

I think Google Classroom is a great idea. This seems to be a great way to organize a classroom and help keep students up on assignments and many other classroom information and projects. This would be really great for middle school classrooms. Google Classrooms would be a great way to keep students engaged in learning and completing homework! I found an article that explains twelve ways to start using Google Classroom. There are good tips and information on using this technology. I hope to use this someday in my classroom!

I love articles like these because they make something look so simple and quick to do. This article breaks down step by step things that are quick and easy and things that anyone can do. What I particularly like about using Google in the classroom is being able to have students work together online in real time, so students can work on an assignment together from separate places. People also have great suggestions in the comments of the article.

I think for a school like Central Methodist, Google Classroom would not be necessary because most of the features shown in the video can be done on myCmu. Other educational institutions can definitely benefit form the many features of this app. Most assignments are turned in online today, google classroom makes it easy to see who has turned in information in real time. This system is built to be simple for both students and teachers to navigate. Google classroom is a great step in the right direction when talking about communication between teachers and students. There is no longer an excuse for 'I didn't know when it was due.' Like myCmu, google classroom is a useful and efficient tool to help the educational process.

I am not sure if I will use it. I have several sites I use but this would allow me to organize everything in one place. I have to do to more research on how effective it is.

I had never used google products before in school but i think that after seeing that video that i can say that it would be beneficial for students and teachers to use because all of the information that will be needed for the class will be readily available easier because it would be on one page. I think that this program should be used by all college teachers.
