More and more schools are requiring their teachers to use Google products. Find an article about Google in Education and share your reflections and the link with the class.

I read through a few of thes articles and found it very interesting how teachers are using google products. For example, since this class I have been using my website that I have created. I have been documenting a lot of activities and assignments my students have completed this year. I would like to eventually use my website as a type of blog for my classroom so parents can look at what we're doing. I like this particular article because it clarified misconcepts I had about blogs and websites. There is a lot of information on this website to help educate teachers how to use different tools and what tools/resources are avaliable for teachers. I don't think it should be manditory for students to use at home because I stll have 2 students without a computer or internet access.

What a great read that was very educational to me. At our school we switched over to GMail last year and the tech guy told us there was so many options for this particular site. Unfortunately I haven't had to time to sit down and figure a lot of them out. So this website gave me some really good ideas to start doing! The idea of being able to search for any document will save me so much time! Thanks for sharing!

Google Docs is especially useful in group projects. During a group project for a public relations course in undergrad, we worked on the project all semester, and using Google Docs allowed us to work on the project in our separate rooms on campus rather than finding the time to work on it together. Sometimes the editing can be a little slow, but ultimately it makes editing the same document so much easier. I also love that Google Docs/Google Drive allows me to access my files everywhere. It makes switching between computers so much easier!

I love Google Docs because there are so many different ways that it can be used. I have had a personal gmail account for the last six years and have found it to be more reliable than most. I also like the fact that I can access the files from anywhere, I am on the go a lot and this makes it convenient for me.

Johnna, being able to access Google Docs from anywhere is definitely a bonus. There are many times I have to take advantage of any spare time I have whether it is at home or at one of my children's activities. Being able to access the applications from anyplace at anytime would be wonderful. The collaborative editing and various features which allow students to work with their peers, even peers from other countries, is a great feature. Students can learn a lot from other students while they actively participate in the process. I am looking forward to learning how to use Google Docs in my classroom!

I think that Google has so much to offer!! I love the way that things can be edited and accessed instantly. It also gives students less of a chance to make excuses... Student's can't say "I left the worksheet at school" or "I forgot the paper at home". Everything is accessed online - which is pretty much everywhere now! :)

Google is a great tool to have and it can be used very well in a classroom. If all of my students were to have access to the internet and a computer I would use Google with them to do some paper projects. I like the idea that they do need to be responsible with the work they are given and that they need to learn how to do homework in different formats. Sadly some of my students to not have internet or a computer. I do like it and the uses for Google.

A year ago at CMU I had a creative writing class, we submitted all of our papers through google docs. This way we could edit each other's papers during class and then work individually at home. Docs is efficient because the information is always available from every computer. This could be an effective way to hand out assignments and make sure students turn things in on time. Google Docs is one of many useful products that help kids learn and develop.

I really like Google calendar. Students and staff can easily share information this way. If I need to arrange meetings with a co worker I can check Google calendar and see when they have free time. These apps allow us to have everything on our phone and convenient.

I love the Google calendar as well. It is a very quick and easy way to communicate with parents and students. Coming from the college side I use Google calendar to set up all of my academic advising sessions with my students. When working with over 450 students in my department it is the most efficient way for me to set appointments. I also utilize Google docs. as well. The students can print off any forms they may need prior to coming into our meetings.

I agree Google calendar is one of the best aps Google has. It is easy to change and let everyone know without confusion. I am considering building a Google calendar for the volleyball team to keep everyone on the same page. It is hard keeping 50+ people on the same schedule, but I think Google calendar could help.

I love using the Google calendar because it helps me to keep track of my staff meetings, training sessions and seminars. You can save and edit, and make notes on the calendar even directly from an email. You're able to set reminders and it's easily accessible.

I like the idea of not just using Google in the classroom, but also in the work place. If we can use these apps you talked about to stay connected as a staff it will making coordinating our efforts even easier.

I completely agree with you on the changes that have been made in communication. G-Mail was frustrating to me in the beginning but after we began to understand just how much easier it was to schedule meetings, calls, and share information everyone in our office quickly jumped on board. I'm personally a big fan of the Google Calendar. It is so easy to sync it to my iPhone and make appointments when I'm on the road. I'm pretty sure I'd be lost and missing a lot of appointments if I didn't have that capability!

I think this was a really good read for me since our school just switched over, too. We are working right now to communicate more throughout the day with other teachers. I have been wanting to find more information on using Google and I believe that this article will help! I think that having the app available to be easily manageable by students will help too.

I read an article called 10 Ways Google Classroom will make learning better. The article discussed how easy it is for teachers to address each students tech abilities, a form of centralized communication, provide quicker feedback to students, create sharing folders for the classroom, save money on paper, and even record grades for the students. The most important piece of the article pointed out that all of the Google apps are kept in one place. It is easy for the student to utilize the app because they are not switching as frequently. Adding Google in the classroom is a fun and exciting way for students to learn. During my observations in college I had to present a lesson to the class on geography. I was able to utilize the Google Earth app to show a very detailed picture of the places I was discussing. I believe that adding Google Apps for Education is a great way for students and teachers to communicate. I also found it interesting that a teacher can control what sites a student is not allowed to visit. I think this adds a very important layer of safety that many are concerned about. I have posted the link below and have even looked a few other sites. I think this is a great way for everyone to be involved!

It is definitely important to have apps that are all in one place. It reduces confusion between students and teachers, and it makes life so much easier for everybody when you know exactly where to find the app you need. Many professors in college are moving toward online file sharing versus paper copies--some believe they are easier to grade because they can access them anywhere and it reduces paper waste. I use Google apps for work and on my personal computer, and having all my files on Google Drive has made my life so much easier. I can access files from campus computers that I have on my personal laptop. This is definitely something that students can use as well, so there's not more "I forgot it at home."

Katie, from what I have read, Google in the classroom is great. I think the fast feedback that can be given to the students is really important. Also, the recording of grade and being able to organize files in one place is a huge time saver for the teacher. Once a teacher learns to use the different Google applications there is so much more that can be achieved academically than by the traditional pencil/paper methods! Another huge benefit is that students can work collaboratively with students in schools in other states and countries. Another big benefit of Google Apps is student motivation. If students are interested and motivated to learn, academic achievement will improve.

This would definitely help the professors along with students at any level because of the problem of losing papers when you have 20 + and having multiple classes. So this would eliminate this problem.

Okay I will admit that I cheated on this assignment. I looked at different articles but could not find one that I like or one that would work for this assignment. I then chose to search youtube for this. I found a great article that talks about a success story for the use of google applications in a school. This school was a school in need that needed change and when the principal wanted to use google to change the school everyone thought he was crazy. But in the long run this is what saved the school from shutting down and having their kids become heavy in gangs.

In another one of my classes we are talking about traditional classrooms. I agree that as educators we need to "get on board" and start teaching our student with new technology and methods. Simply using textbooks and lecturing isn't enough anymore. Using technology has to be like other subjects in school. They need to learn it then or they won't anywhere else. Google provides many great programs and features, but I like Google Maps the best as well.

I agree I think that Google Doc is a great program for sharing documents and would help students get help right away from other students or just the teacher. I wish they had this when I was in high school cause it would have help tremendously.

I actually found an article about google docs as well and I find that it is a very very profound element to education. I am willing to bet that college teachers will soon be on board to accept documents this way. I think the most profound element to Google Docs is the fact that students or groups an work on the same document from different locations.

Google Docs can be very useful in any class or any department that requires written text. It is great that documents can be edited by those that are able to edit them. I will go as far as having a conversation with other teachers about something through docs and this can happen with students or others who are a part of the document.

I think using Google as a learning tool is a good idea, I'm a fan of Google also. The Apps are easy to use and very interesting so students won't get bored with traditional learning. My only issue is that if it's not monitored correctly it will defeat it's purpose and be more of a distraction than a learning tool.

I can see how the things of the past still exist, but are now being converted digitally. Gone are the days of posters, students are now creating their own digital works and saving time, and space doing it. I feel that a class room that is more technologically integrated. Its a win-win for both parties. Students learn how to use modern day technology and in the long run it makes things easier for the school.
