Hello! I am Katie D. I am currently an Admissions and Advisement Specialist for State Fair Community College in Sedalia. I graduated from Knob Noster High School in 2004 and from the University of Central Missouri in 2011 with my Bachelors of Science in Child and Family Development.
While attending college I worked full time for the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri. During my time with the organization I managed my own facility with a license for 200 youth. I coordinated the Think Smart programs during this time as well. I taught everything from basic computer skills to internet safety to all the youth ages 6-18. After graduating college I accepted a position with the Workforce Development Board in Sedalia, Missouri. With this position I worked with youth ages 14-21 who had dropped out of high school. My job consisted of teaching basic life skills and teaching Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading, and Writing in preparation for the GED(HiSet)exam. After 3 years with the Board I accepted a position with State Fair Community College as an Admissions Coordinator. Here I help students achieve their educational goals by assisting them with educational plans.
As an individual I use technology every day. Everyday I use my PC, Laptop, Nook, and iPad. Outside of work I also love to use digital cameras and photo editing software. I'm extremely comfortable with technology on my own but I'm looking forward to learning new ideas on implementation in the classroom.

Hello Katie! I've worked with college admissions briefly, so I know it takes a lot of work and much of the success of a college depends on the admissions counselors and specialists. It's one thing to assist a student who is already at the college or university, but to help them figure out the best track for them academically can be a whole different ball game. I look forward to hearing about your experiences!

Hi Katie! It seems you have worked with a wide range of students. Like you, I am looking forward to learning about new ideas with technology to use in my classroom. I am comfortable in some areas of technology, but I know I have much more to learn. So much has changed and still is changing in technology that is can sometimes be overwhelming! It is amazing how many different applications there are for teachers to use in the classrooms with students, especially since I was in school. Good luck with class and I look forward to sharing ideas with you!

My name is Tim Dickens. I am 53 years old. My wife is Cathy. We have been married for 33 years. I have 2 children my son Robert who passed away in 2004 when he was 12 and my daughter Marylyn. She is 24 and is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State and is currently a Missouri State Highway Patrol officer. I am originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, how I got to Missouri is a very long story. I graduated in 1979 and have worked many different jobs in my life. I worked for the phone company for 14 years. I was a union representative and traveled a 14 state region working with management to re-design jobs and as a team facilitator. I was laid off in 1992 started a construction business and then moved to Campbell, Missouri in 1996 to take care of my mom. I bought a 50 acre horse ranch in the Campbell area and trained and raised horses but quickly found that it was going to be pretty hard to maintain a profit. I went back to school in 1996 and got my teaching degree in 2000. I taught junior high and high school math at Risco public schools for 5 years and then taught 1 year at Delta C7. I currently teach at Dexter public schools where I teach high school math. I also teach Transitional math for Three Rivers College 4 nights a week. I am currently working on my Masters in Education with a concentration in Math.
I am proficient with technology and use it as often as possible in my classroom. My classroom currently has a projector and a I use an intellawrite system. My students have access to computer labs when needed. I just finished writing a new curriculum for Geometry based on common core standards.
I love teaching and look forward to finding new technologies to incorporate into my classroom.

Nice to meet you Tim!
You have a pretty cool story. My grandpa always told me as a kid to attach yourself with people that have a story because they have probably survive something and they can probably teach you a thing or two about life. From losing a child, having a daughter in the highway patrol field, being married for 33 years, being from Albuquerque then coming to Missouri, woking at a phone company, purchasing a 50 acre horse ranch and then realizing that its tough to maintain a profit and deciding to go back to school to finish so that you can begin teaching...Whew, thats sounds like a man that has been through some things and could teach me a thing or two like my grandpa always told me.
I am from Los Angeles California and my journey to Missouri is a long and interesting one as well so I understand what you been through to a certain degree.
I look forward to learning from you this semester Tim and congrats on 33 years of marriage. I believe that no matter what race or nationality someone is, love is a universal language that is not often spoken loud enough to the youth and 33 years of marriage is a sure testament that your journey is worth learning!!

I would love to have a SMART Board, but I do have a document camera, desktop computer, iPad, a couple of student computers and a lab with a SMART board. I am looking forward to learning about technology applications to use in my classroom. I have taught for nineteen years and it's never to late to learn more! Good luck this semester!

I can also say I do not have any kids but my wife will change my mind on that in a couple of years. I just hope they are good kids when they are away from me. Congrats on this being your first grad class. I am sure you will enjoy graduate school and it seems like you are the type of person who will get the most out of it. Nicketa, I am glad to be able to have something in common as our first grade class!!

Katie,
I will make sure to let you know what has changed, etc. in my classroom. I love the small school setting. I couldn't imagine myself in a big school!

Prof. Myers,
Mrs. Bishop!!! Yes, she is such an awesome lady! She is very kind! I have never met her kiddos, but could only imagine that they are sweet just like her!

Becky,
Yes, I cannot complain. If I need anything in my classroom my district does anything they can to get it for me. I have a very pleasing budget each year too. I rarely have to spend my own money on school supplies.

Kiefer,
My mom always said you should at least have one child of your own! 8 kiddos is a blessing. I couldn't imagine having more than 16 in my room. I am enjoying my grad classes so far! I am only taking two, I don't want to overwhelm myself!

I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful labor day weekend! four more days! :)

My name is Jess Brink and I am currently a Community Support Specialst at Burrell Behavioral Health. My path is a little different from most Masters of Education students - I don't have a classroom and don't plan to! I am getting my focus in Behavioral Analysis in hopes of getting a position working with children and their families with Autism! Since I don't have my own classroom, technology isn't something I have to deal with currently. For my position, I use a laptop and that's about it ;) I'm excited to learn all about technology in the classroom! Hello, I’m Nicketa Coombs, age 24 and I’m Jamaican born and raised. At age 18, I moved to the United States on a full Track and Field athletic scholarship. I received my first Bachelors in Exercise Science at the University of Mary in Bismarck ND and my second in Health and Wellness at Lincoln University in Jefferson City MO. I’m now at Central Methodist in Fayette pursuing my Masters in Education with a concentration in Sports Administration. Professionally, I have a lot of experience teaching and coaching athletes of all ages through summer camps and at the Human Performance Center in Bismarck ND. Also, I’ve worked as a tutor and mentor to teenagers in different group homes, I’ve been a support specialist to individuals suffering from various disabilities and I’m also a Herbalife Health Coach. I’m not currently teaching at a school but I’ll be using this class a guide and learning experience. I would like to mention that as a support specialist, I’ve used various technologies to help those individuals learn different things. For example, I worked with a young lady suffering from Autism and she was nonverbal so her method of communication was via Apps on her iPad. Currently I have a laptop computer, an iPad and a tablet available to me if I need to use them. Lastly, I’m very excited to start this journey and I’m looking forward to this semester. I’m from a different culture so I’m eager to see how your culture differs and what areas it’s similar. Have a great semester everyone!

Hello! My name is Katie Damgar. I am currently a graduate assistant for the Central Methodist volleyball team. I graduated from Liberty High School in 2010 and then continued my education at William Jewell College.
I graduated William Jewell with a major in organizational communication and a minor in business administration. Throughout my four years at Jewell I had many internships, from the community relation intern at Sporting Kansas City to managing the Christmas tree program at a local non-profit. These internships taught me what I want and do not want in a career. I learned that I love working with children and that I love the non-profit sector. I am still deciding what I want to do exactly with my life, but right now my goal is to be a mentor for youth at a non-profit such as the boys and girls club or safe house.
On a daily basis I use a computer, laptop, cell phone and iPad. I feel very comfortable with technology, but I am very excited to learn new ways to use technology to help others.

Johnna, it sounds like we are in the same boat as far as available technology in the classroom. My students can't even get on their phones because we do not get cell phone signal where we are located. We are located in the basement of the field house for our middle school. I do not allow them to have their cell phones out anyway because of the chance for distraction in my class. I hope to know you more through out this class and your stand points on teaching. With it being your first year how are you handling discipline in your class? I have my own way of doing this but I like to hear other people's methods.

About time. Hello, my name as you all can see if Kiefer Smith. Just a little about myself. I am a first year teacher and very excited to be a teacher. This is what I have been wanting to do for the last 8 years or so. I originally wanted to become a PE teacher but I also love science and took many science classes. I took and passes the science praxis and was very lucky to hear of an opening in my home town. I interview for the job and got it the following Monday. In my class I am using slightly out date books, but it is okay because my students are still learning what they need to. I also have access to a SMART board that I do notes on and look up other scientific ideas with the students. We also have access to two different computer labs that are shared between the high school and middle school. We do not get in there too much but we do our best to make time for my exploration classes, who are working on their science fair projects at the moment. If you have any questions, please let me know and I will answer them. Have a good day guys.

My name is Brian Calhoun and I am 23 years old. I was born and have lived most of my life in St. Louis. I decided to move to Fayette in 2009 so I could continue to play baseball and earn my degree at Central Methodist University. I graduated last spring with a bachelors of science degree in physcial education and health. During my last semester of school, I did my student teaching at two Columbia area schools, Shephard Elementary and HIckman High school. Over the past few summers I have been the assistant coach of a high school baseball team called the Rawlings Tigers. Currently, I am living in Fayette Missouri, taking graduate classes at the University. During the day I am usually substitute teaching in the central Missouri area. Once I get my graduate degree, I hope to become a physcial education teacher and head baseball coach. If I move back to the St. Louis area I would love to also coach hockey. When teaching any class I like to include some form of technology. When classes are lifting, I put on music. I have also used video may times to show my players exactly what they need to fix. I am glad that I choose educator and I look forward to beginning my carer, at any grade level.
